Vampire Conduct

In one week, almost to the minute, I begin my third shift adventure. I'm hesitant, naturally, but hopeful that it will bring better muscle tone and look great on my job resume. Plus I'm curious to know what it will be like to be a night owl. A night walker. A creature of the night. I'm waiting for the day when I end my shift and walk outside to see the sun rising. That will be a sight to see, a sensation to experience. I also feel like this will be a friend filtering several months. I've informed practically everyone of what is going to take place, and I'm interested to see which of my friends stick around, which ones leave me to the night, and which ones remember me when May rolls around. Plus I have to find out which ones endure my inevitable cranky moods, I'm sure I'll be quick to bite and draw blood. The good ones will endure, and the superficial ones will drop like corpses. It'll be like thinning the herd. Can you tell I'm very carnal today? I watched Big Cat Diary, a show about my favorite animals on Animal Planet, which is always a pleasure. And then I YouTubed some Buffy clips, just for shits and giggles. So I'm very bite marks and jugular veins today. I meant to see that Ethan Hawke movie about vampires that came out earlier this month, but never got around to it. Can't believe that it's already February, that seems so fast. I despise February, fake holidays and harsh weather. I still think it's lame that no one credits Buffy for truly bringing about the vampire craze that our culture is currently in. She started it. She did it the best. All these Twilights and Moonlights and Spotlights owe it all to her. She made vampires en vogue. And Spike made them sexy. I always took after Buffy when it came to making my priorities, putting friends and family before homework and social responsibilities. Fighting the good fight and leaving math tests to everyone else. Apparently I'm rubbing off on the boys. One of my housemates literally just sprinted out of the house and sped off down the street like a seventies action movie. Apparently someone needs his help. Chances are he's blowing off homework, and he might not even make it to all his classes tomorrow. But friends, and family, come first. We help each other because it's what we do. Another reason why I'm so bent on getting bigger muscles and being healthier. Since I wasn't technically born with or imbued with "Slayer strength", I kinda have to make my own. Excuse me while I do some push ups....

Nice Umbrella

I wanna be an Avenger. I would be good at it. It's the soft core version of being a Bristow, also it would mean having a tailor. The umbrella is also totally kick ass. I would love to just carry the umbrella, look completely GQ approved and occasionally have to lay a smack down on some buggary idiot. The bowler hat is also snazzy. And, if I'm basing this off of the Ralph Fiennes version, I would look mighty good in just a towel. Although, vanity in full force now, I'm getting sorta impressed with the mirror when I look at it. Working out everyday is becoming a must have. Not because of the effects, although I like those, it's because I need that adrenaline rush. I need the cardio high. The blood pumping. It makes me more focused, it allows me to do more in one day, it gives me energy to take care of those around me. The last time I was in the greatest shape of my life it was because I associated looking good with control. It was high school, and there is nothing you can control in high school, so I made sure I was fit and trim. Nowadays I need to be at the top of my game physically so that I can do perform my best. Being involved in as many lives as I am, could make a boy tired. But I love all my friends and family so much that I can't be tired. I want to be there for everyone, I want to help, protect, defend, support and care for those around me. So I need to be fit and centered. I say and explain all of this because I can't help but feel like the sky may or may not crack open and let loose with the rain sometime soon. It's this sneaking suspicion that it's all going to come down, and if this does happen, I would like to be ship shape. In all ways of that phrase. If I am going to have to start carrying my stylish, metaphorical umbrella to block the rain and the bad guys, I'm glad that I'm in the best shape of my life...yet again. It kind of makes sense to be at the top of your game when you are in the stages and ages of my life. When you have the least solid ground, you should make your body as solid as possible. Plus it is a great way to release the bad juju that you can amass in just one day. Or even from just one shift at work. So yes, I may be carrying my nice umbrella, but don't let that fool you. I'll block the rain and take the punch if it means helping those I love.

You Are The Most Important

Dear ________,

You are the most important person I have ever met, so please have no patience, mercy or understanding when it comes to me. I have no problem with the fact that you are tapping your finger on my counter, rolling your eyes at my conversation engaging questions, or scoffing when I tell you are bags are not free. You have my sincerest apologies for not having cut down the tree personally so you can throw your on-sale-for-twelve-dollars sweater into it, seriously though, my bad. And how dare I try to brighten your day with friendly chit chat, shame on me, please feel free to stab me in the tongue with one of several pens you keep in your over sized purse. And, while you're at it, throw your credit cards towards me with speeds that could break the sound barrier, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Oh, and if you are on the phone, please do not hang up on my account, for anything do the opposite. Talk louder and wave me off with your hand when I try to make sure you found everything you were looking for. Oh and whatever you do, please please please, and I can not stress this one enough, do not check the expiration dates on your coupons; obviously we print those numbers just because we have numerical OCD and we get off on that kind of thing.

Sincerely,
The Guy That Rang You Up

I would just like to say that it just isn't the "Me Generation" that are selfish, self absorbed, self centered dodo heads. It's everyone. Young, old, new, retired. Being an asshole is not age nor generation discriminate. Everyone can participate in this movement...and everyone does.

"""So I wrote everything above this line before being requested to go out tonight, everything that follows is post fun-stimulating-entertaining-evening"""

Like I said, I was requested to go out tonight. Try as I might, I can't seem to say no to spending money when I know it's going to equal great conversations, amazing times, and much needed mass amounts of laughing. And tonight was just that. It was especially great because it was with newer friends and tonight was one of those nights when I just needed to be with people I care for and laugh until my tummy hurt, and they made sure that happened. I was called upon my one of my new girlies, to come meet her and her boyfriend and one of her roommates down at Fridays for drinks and dinner. By the way, I could live off of California Club sammichs, edible perfection! So I walked down to meet them and then we went back to her boyfriends apartment and we watched Star Trek. Which has amazing visual effects, and Chris Pine. Once again, edible perfection. And then we just sat on the couch, us four, four over an hour just laughing and talking and bonding. It was just what my fictional doctor ordered for me. Sometimes I was laughing so hard I was crying, other times I almost cried because we were talking so seriously, and sometimes I wanted to cry because I was so happy. Nights like this remind me of what is really important in life. Things get better, for as much as they get worse.

-Working Full Time, Living Part Time

The older I get the more I value free time. Which is never really free time; it is more of a conscious decision on my part to push back obligations, delay deadlines and free up my schedule to do exactly what I want to do. Even when this does happen my brain, on some level, is creating a timetable of due dates for all the work I will have to make up and all the work that will inevitably be piled on top. So even when I am working to have a good time, I am still working to plan out all the work that needs to get done and factoring in all the work that is going to be given, all while trying to remember that all work and no play makes life not worth living. What exactly are we working for again? Besides working for the weekend, it is sometimes difficult to remember why exactly we keep putting our noses to the grindstone. Is anyone else worried they are running out of nose? We have to work in our classes to make sure we get decent grades; part of having decent grades is doing homework. We have to work to make sure we somehow find enough time to not only go to classes but study for them and work for them outside of class. It sometimes feels like we are working just to achieve more work. Not to mention all the obligations we have outside of schoolwork. Trying to find time to workout and stay fit; working to look good. Making sure we get enough hours at work so we can pay bills and bar tabs; working for the man. Trying to work in enough time to see, maintain and catch up with friends; working for community. Finding time to get all the needed housework done; working for domesticity. We also have to work towards our goals, dreams and ambitions; working for sanity. Not to mention working on our romantic lives, social lives and daily lives; working for kisses and social networking. It takes more then working nine to five just to try and make a living.
I am not opposed to hard work, but I am beginning to think we are working too hard on too many things. We work through college so that we can find and get into jobs we won’t mind working for the rest of our lives. Upon entering our jobs we are given work to do, and upon completion of said work we will be rewarded with more work. While in our occupational field we will have to work to stay friendly with our bosses, work to be polite to our colleagues, work to make sure the client is pleased and work to make sure we can keep on working. Just because we are getting paid for forty hours a week doesn’t mean we aren’t working more hours then that. Something tells me that OSHA wouldn’t have much to say if I called to complain about these types of working conditions. Pretty much we are working full time right now, so that we can work full time forever.
The seven dwarfs might have been able to whistle during it to make themselves feel better but I’m going to need more then a few repetitive notes to get me through my day. Work will always be there, in all kinds of shapes and forms and different kinds of stress, but when we have to work to remember how to have fun it has gone too far. Plus we aren’t just working for ourselves; this is not one long solo mission. Often times we are working for our friends our families and our lovers. We have to work to make sure they know who we are, what we are about and what we a working towards. Doing so much work changes a person quickly and often, so unless we want to end up working by ourselves we have to work to stay in touch. There is no way any of us would be able to work through our mountains of work and obligations unless we have people we love standing beside us. So sure, all work and no play can make life not worth living; but making sure you have people to work beside you and play with is work worth doing.
